Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 6:01 AMWell, I can definitely tell you it's NOT Icefalcon. We've got a rather expensive bit of helming gathering dust on a shelf right now. : ( -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 8:00 AMA lot of people like Icefalcon's stuff. Why didn't it work for you, if I may ask?
(Don't own his stuff, too pricey for me, just curious) -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 3:12 PMI believe that his Graces helms are high quality and built like tanks, however there is just something about the lines of them that are just off. Just my opinion, I have never heard any negative comments about his business practices and he has a stellar reputation on the Armor Archive. I know cost is a barrier for many people who have considered his wares.

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 6:12 AMNo, it works, and is very nice looking, it was just EXTREMELY expensive.

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 6:11 AMWell, let me ask...
1) Do you have a particular time period / culture in mind?
2) What do you consider "Medium price?"
In my opinion, the ONE piece of armor you should be afraid to spend a bit extra cash on is the part protecting your brain from thugs with sticks. Looks for stainless steel (14g, 12g is better).

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 8:29 AMice makes good stuff and some very pretty stuff, its just a little more than some people want to pay for it.
My pal Dave Rylak makes armor for a living, Vulcan's Forge i believe its called. Good quality and fair prices, i can give you his email if you pm me. -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 8:37 AMYes, I also know Icefalcon's armor and it is very high quality. I believe that the comment was intended towards the price, not the quality. Gladius was asking about moderate priced armor. -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 10:06 AMI am making fencing helmets and need to subcontract out the bevor and visor. These can be 18 to 16ga mild steel. The other parts I can cut and bang out locally. I basically need someone who has the tooling, the skills, and the capacity to produce the parts I require in batches of 10 or 20. -

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 1:13 PMMad Matt Armory - in Michigan.
He might be able to help. -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 2:18 PMMatt has been very willing to take on jobs like this, working with modifications, etc. (From what I have gleaned in the past on ArmourArchive) -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Fri, April 25, 2008 - 2:49 PMThanks for all the leads thus far. I have contacted Ironmonger, Matt, and one other armorer to whom I was referred by a private message. I looked at Ice Falcon's web site, but they already offer fencing helmets, and I am therefore a potential competitor. If anyone know of any other good armorers, I'd like know about them as well. The more quotes the better. Also, having more than one supplier can be a good thing. -

Re: Good SCA Fighting Helmets?
Sat, April 26, 2008 - 2:05 AMIt'd probably be worth your time to post what your looking for over at the Armour Archive, in the Classified forum. It's a good way to get armourers to come to you, rather than seeking them out one by one. www.armourarchive.org/
