So apparently the new McDonald's has a large, rather bright sign that is fairly visible from various parts of Cooper's. If anyone has a mind to, a number of SCAdians have been posting the following at the McDonald's "Contact Us" page located here:

www.mcdonalds.com/contact/c...ct_us.html

There is a new McDonalds at US Route 422 & Currie Rd near Slippery Rock, PA. The sign is so tall as to be visible from the campground 1 mile to the north, where I and 15,000 of my closest friends spend two weeks in July and august at a medieval and renaissance recreation event. While I have no objection to the McDonalds and expect that your location will do a booming business for those two weeks, in addition to the other major events held at the campground, the sign is so tall as to be an eyesore that intrudes on our suspension of disbelief. You would gain a great deal of goodwill with our group, and quite probably a great deal more business, if the sign were to be lowered a bit or turned off after dark so as not to be visible from the campground.

If we can ignore cameras and cell-phones, we can ignore giant annoyingly bright McyDees signs.

Well really since I stay down the hill, except for one party at night, it won't be in my face as much, but what I really thinking is how many times will someone at o'drunk thirty try to talk me into driving to Mc Slimebags for food. I should be able to ignore it during the day like we do the trucks using engine brakes.

I think that station will do whatever we want them to once they see all the yen we bring in.

Either that or they'll run screaming like girls right outta town.....

We should get everyone to go at the same time and just order a small fry with extra cheese. Or see if we can get them to run out of food one day with a concentrated assault.

I like Waian's idea. Honestly, I don't think we should have to put up with anything. But maybe instead of trying to get them to turn it off we can coerce them into transplanting huge pines to block it from the campsite.

By coerce I mean get all the biggest heavy fighters and tuchux to storm in and start demanding meat. And more meat, and meat again. Without saying anything else.

its either that or just a boycott of that store. I'm sure if word got round at war that people eating there got food poisoning that most would avoid it.

C'mon Tommaso, Doesn't the idea of dressing up like a spartan and yelling, "TONIGHT, WE DINE IN MCDONALDS!" appeal to you just a bit.

"Our eyes bear witness to the grotesque side order, coughed forth from the dark corners of the freezer in the back."

"Xerxes is displeased with his clerks. He disciplines them. He gives them a written reprimand."

"....his burger was greasy. His fries were salty. His McChicken had too much mayo."

              ok, sorry, I'll stop now.

Although I am a huge advocate for not wasting food (you wouldn't know it to look at me), I think it would be quite the FU to the McDonald's Corp after everybody giving them warning of the impending overload of business, them stocking themselves to the gills, and not one person going in.

"I don't understand it, Bill. There's like 12,000 people camped down the street and we haven't seen a customer all day. We can't even give this stuff away!"

But if there is going to be a 300 re-inactment, my ass it there!

                WE... ARE... SCADIANS!!!

Unfortunartly any who have worked McD's or have friends that are owner operators knows food can be shipped in or out of a store overnight they are like the Borg. If we flood them they will adapt and if we boycott they will adapt. Our best option is to ask politely and hope for the best. Most owner operators will do their best to accomidate a large customer base by shutting off the sign if they can and may give a discount to those with a medallion. If it's a corperate store we will probubly get the FU. Just my experance with an O/O in Rochester NY.

They are not going to turn off that sign. There are other travelers that they are trying to attract from the interstate. Turning off that sign would be counter-productive for them.

And they didn't bat an eye at live steel. :( I went there War practice in full regalia, and most of the people working there were familiar with War and our "peculiarities".

just suck it up and deal. Pennsic has been getting larger and larger and everyone seems to think that area of PA exists in a vaccuum and that no land or retail development goes on around Coopers lake in the time that we are not there so it invariably ends up being the shock of the western world when people discover (much to a sense of suprise I can find no rational justification for) that in fact the Area around Coopers lake is not sealed away in some weird version of tupperware when we are not there so that all change is forestalled. I hate to break it to you people, but you might think that we represent the sum total of the "make or break" point for the retail establishments in that area....but in fact they still function by the normal models that do not have a special tab in the reports labeled "Pennsic profits", they do not make their business decisions ( the large multinational corporate outfits at any rate) on what will or won't make SCAdians happy at Pennsic. We have had it eal good for far longer than I would ever have imagined possible given the growing push for rural development in PA....it was inevitable that some form or another of civilization encroached on Coopers Lake beyond the point of easily being ignored. That it took this long for something like the big assed sign to appear is a miracle in and of itself.

so suck it up, deal, and all I have to say people is that if one giant McDonalds sign is the make or break point on which a good or bad vacation hinges for you then you really need to redefine how you derivee enjoyment from Pennsic!

yah probably not going to see that from the bog.

I think it would have been more suitable if it were White Castle tho! =)

So, is it on OUR side of 79 or the other side? Walking to a MC'D at o drunk thirty would actually be a nice alternative to stocking lunch meat in the cooler =) Dollar menu for the win!

But I'll be there Friday morning around 1am...

But I do agree...the dollar menu is the shit when you are drunk ;-)
